Jenna & Cody
What better love story…
…than nurse meets cop, they fall in love and save the world together? In November 2018, Jenna and Cody came together with their friends and family to make it all official at the beautiful St. Michael’s Catholic Church, home to the longest aisle in the city.
Their special day was documented by Marcin and Magda of Wasio Photography.
Cody walked into a Starbucks looking for coffee and he ended up meeting the love of his life, Jenna, who was studying for grad school. They dated almost two years, their first dinner being BBQ, Jenna’s favorite. The reality of their occupations and opposite schedules meant lot of time apart during their relationship and wedding planning. In the end they persevered and had the night of their life.
We checked in with the happily wed couple six months later and asked them how they felt and what they’d learned looking back on their wedding day.
“Trying to work through all of the opinions and ideas of other people was unexpected,” Jenna told us. “Not even just family members chiming in, but friends and co-workers lending their input. It is a lot to manage but it is important to stick with what you and your significant other actually want.”
Jenna loved trying on wedding dresses almost as much as she loved finding the perfect one for her wedding day. The dress hung in the shop window at Winnie Couture not far from their home. Any time they walked past, Jenna had to hide her excitement so as not to give away her secret.
The bridal party caffeinated, pampered and dressed in the hip Lincoln Hotel.
Jenna’s family came from Napa, California where the family vineyard produces incredible wine, featured at the wedding. They joined Cody’s family, deeply rooted in the blue bloods of Chicago, to witness the couple’s celebration.
The couple stayed with tradition and had their first look only as Jenna’s father walked her down the aisle. “The feeling I had right before I saw Cody… I was so anxious and excited before the doors opened. When I finally saw him when I was walking down the aisle… the second I saw Cody, I couldn’t stop smiling,” said Jenna.
After the ceremony, the wedding party braved the cold Lake Michigan breeze in Lincoln Park for some spectacular night shots.
At Ovation, a renovated foundry turned event venue and home to a DJ collective, the newlyweds joined their guests for dinner and dancing. Sweet Baby Ray’s impressed with a barbecue feast paying homage to the first dinner date Jenna and Cody shared, it’s Jenna’s favorite.
We asked the couple how they decided on their gorgeous wedding aesthetic. “Cody and I actually knew what we wanted right away. We wanted a rustic look, preferably with exposed brick. We weren’t looking for a hotel or banquet hall. We looked at Ovation first, Cody heard about it from one of his coworkers. We saw about ten other venues but came back to Ovation because it was the perfect fit.”
The couple’s favorite gift was a Coca-cola bar cooler from one of Jenna’s aunts. Cody is obsessed with Coke and the couple loves it as a statement piece in their home together.
After dinner, guests indulged in Do-Rite’s donuts, an aunt’s homemade pastries and boozy coffee nightcaps in between songs rocked out by Style Matters DJ.
Jenna can’t stop thinking about their first dance to this day. “It didn’t even feel as though there were all those people watching us. It felt like it was just Cody and me, enjoying each other and probably looking ridiculous dancing.”
When asked how they would describe their wedding day, Jenna said, “It’s cliche, but it was the most amazing day of my life. I wish I could do it all over again. It was a culmination of almost a year of planning and being able to celebrate Cody and I with family and best friends. It was the most amazing celebration.”
Cody added that their big day was “amazing and perfect… I got to marry my best friend.”
Jenna completed her perfect style with her great grandmother’s pearl necklace, her grandmother’s fur and her mother’s pearl bracelet and veil. But it was her blue suede shoes that were the kicker.
The couple’s private cake by Sweet Mandy B’s was specifically created to Cody’s tastes and topped with a family heirloom of Jenna’s. It is a perfect example of how their love is sweet and simple.
We’ll leave you with the sweetest and most sincere closing thoughts from Jenna and Cody.
